So I want to start off by saying I love Hawaii. Luh-ove it. This trip was short and sweet and one of my best friends, Julie, who had never been came with me. Now she loves Hawaii too. Second, I didn’t take my DSLR everywhere with me, just to the North Shore one day and on our very last morning hanging out on Waikiki. The lenses I took were my 24-70mm L, 70-200mm L, and my 10mm fisheye. The second lens is one of the main reasons why I didn’t cart my camera around the whole trip: that suckers heavy! lol Plus, I had my handy dandy iphone that takes kinda awesome photos as well.
So, without further ado, here is what I captured… hope you like flowers, beaches, cityscapes, sunsets, mai tai’s, and self portraits…. cus there is a LOT of them coming up ; )
This was the first time I picked up my camera. This was Honolulu at night from my hotel balcony. This was handheld, using the railing for support, with a 2 second exposure, using my 10mm fisheye.
This was second time I picked up my camera. There aren’t too many of these (you’re welcome) this is me and Julie on hotel balcony at sunset.
The third time I picked up my camera is when I did the most damage. Julie and I rented a jeep and drove up to the North Shore to get out of touristy Honolulu and see a more kicked back side of Ohua. I took her to Waimea Valley. It’s a cool little nature walk that ends at a waterfall. Grab a snack and pull up a chair… there are quite a few photos coming your way!
The breeze blowing through the bamboo sounded like an old, creaky wood ship.
Sometimes the bokeh (the pretty blurred background) was so yummy I could eat it…
She had no idea…. hehe
Yes, I let her hold my camera… just long enough to snap a shot of me. Haha. She did awesome!
Time to walk back…
So Julie and I found a restaurant on North Shore that had a pretty spectacular view of the sunset (Jameson’s). We had a seat outside and I waited patiently for the sun to go down. I got distracted by my food, but quickly put my fork down and ran across the street and captured this…love the guy fishing out at the tip. Love how the land made the perfect leading line… takes your eyes straight to the main attraction- the sunset.
This was the final time I drug my camera out. It was our last day and we were all packed waiting for the shuttle to take us to the airport. We had to (well I had to… lol) get yet even more Honolulu Company Cookies to take home. We also breathed in our last bit of lovely beachy goodness. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
This shot was from the other side of our balcony. This was a mini HDR photo- I only merged two different exposures together. I caught this during sunrise.
And here are a couple iphone collages just for the heck of it. If you have made it down this far, why not keep going…. : )
And that face Julie is making at me above is the “I gave up my seat at the front of the plane to sit next to you, so now we will get off last” look. Julie and I had a blast. We soaked up the sun (maybe a little too much but the pink/red soon turned into a golden tan!), swam in the ocean, had some of the best sushi ever, had the best pancakes ever, drank a mai tai or two (I never drink mai tai’s, but when in Rome, right!?!) kicked back in the North Shore, walked all around Honolulu… even to where it got a little dodgy and we saw some short skirts and very high clear healed girls walking around… hmmmmm, and that’s not even half of what we squeezed into our 4 1/2 days there!
Thanks for looking through my photographs. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed capturing them. If you ever want to go to Hawaii- I’m game!
